Lord Niyananda appeared in 1474 in the village of Ekachakra, now in West Bengal. Lord Nityananda always served Lord Chaitanya in any way that he could. His beauty was so enchanting and He was so full of ecstatic love for Krishna that wherever He moved, crowds of people would follow and become lovers of God.To celebrate Lord Nityananda's appearance day is an important function for devotees of Krishna because without the mercy of Lord Nityananda it is very difficult to make advancement in spiritual life.

His Holiness Bhaktimarga Swami is not only the Head of GBC Canada but a Trustee here at ISKCON Brampton.

His Holiness Bhaktimarga Swami joined the HARE KRSNA movement in 1973 and was initiated by His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, Founder Acharya of ISKCON. He took sanyasa in 1984 and has been accepting aspiring disciples on behalf of Srila Prabhupada around the world ever since.

As an offering to his guru, Srila Prabhupada, His Holiness Bhaktimarga swami has walked across Canada, a distance of 8,500 kms one way on many occasions to promote spirituality across the nation; He has also completed walks across such countries as Ireland, Israel, Mauritius, Guyana and more.

With a background in fine arts, His Holiness Bhaktimarga Swami also developed a passion for the performing arts. Even in the course of his duties as a monk, he expands his portfolio and manages to take an active role in theatrical productions from epics of ancient Vedic origin. Casting, scripting, and directing morality theatre takes him annually to venues from North America to Asia to South America to Europe and Africa.

We look forward to your association and would like to remind you that we have a Sunday School for children and will be serving prasadam (lunch) to conclude the program. Aarti and Kirtan will continue to take place this Sunday and we look forward to your presence.

Our goal is to engage and encourage teens and young adults in their Krishna Consciousness. The meetings are held at the temple on a Friday evening once a month to discuss Vaishnava culture, songs, mantras and do some kirtan where everyone can practice and learn songs and instruments. At the end a sumptuous vegetarian Feast is served.

The day after Deepawali is celebrated as Govadhan Puja when Mount Govardhan, near Mathura, is worshipped. Pious people keep awake the whole night and cook fifty-six (or 108) different types of food for the bhog (the offering of food) to Krishna. This ceremony is called ankut which means a mountain of food. Various types of food – cereals, pulses, fruit, vegetables, chutneys, pickles, and salads – are offered to the Deity and then distributed as prasada to devotees. This festival is in commemoration of the lifting of Mount Govardhan by Krishna.

Kartik Month - Month of Damodar starting October 11th 2011

We have a special schedule planned for the month that we would share at the temple this Sunday and again at the Thanksgiving program. Kartik (Damodar) is the best, the purest of purifiers, and most glorious of all months. Kartik month is particularly dear to Lord Sri Krishna. This month is full of bhakta vatsalya (He is always favorably inclined to the devotees). Any vrata, even the smallest, will yield huge results. The effect of performing a Kartik Vrata lasts for one hundred lifetimes, Kartik or the festival of offering lamps to Lord Krishna, glorifies Lord Krishna’s pastime of being bound with ropes by Mother Yashoda.

Classes are for 6 years and up.

His Holiness was a former school-teacher joined ISKCON in Durban,South Africa. He founded the Bhaktivedanta College of Education and Culture in Durban, South Africa and is Co-International Director of Bhaktivedanta College of Education & Culture. He is a member of the GBC Ministry of Educational Development, a member of the GBC Succession Committee, Chairman of ISKCON Leadership Education And Development System & a member of the Board of Directors of Mayapur Institute. Maharaj presently travels widely - preaching and teaching Krishna consciousness in ISKCON centers, yoga centers, schools, colleges and universities.

HG Atmarama Dasa, devotional singer and composer of sacred music, has become known for his power to transmit bhakti – spiritual devotion and shakti – divine energy. For the past 25 years he has been residing in India, in the sacred place of Vrindavan, the holy dham of Lord Krishna. While living in Vrindavan absorbed in spiritual life, his devotion deepened and in turn, his musical ability blossomed. After spending several years there engaged in devotional service and Vedic studies; he developed a strong desire to share the nectar of Vrindavan with others. He realized that he could use his God given gift of music to bring light into the darkness of modern society.

Upcoming Event - Festival of India (Ratha Yatra)

The parade down Yonge Street echoes an annual procession that has taken place for centuries in the ancient city of Puri, India. There, three mammoth chariots, known as rathas are taken on a jubilant procession, called a yatra. Hence, the Festival is also known as Ratha-Yatra or "chariot procession". In Puri, this age-old Ratha-Yatra procession continues to attract over a million people every year!

ISKCON Brampton would be serving at the Festival of India on Saturday July 16th and Sunday 17th July 2011. There are various areas where we can serve – prasadam distribution on the island, parade supervisor and attending pre-Ratha Yatra events to promote festival.

12-hour kirtan:
There is a festive buzz in the air as we prepare for the 39th Annual Festival of India (Ratha-Yatra)! To celebrate this year's festivities, Iskcon Toronto are thrilled to announce that they will be holding a 12-Hour Kirtan Festival on July 15th, from 10:00AM - 10:00PM which everyone in the GTA will be invited to. They will be creating a spiritual explosion with kirtaneers from around the world including HH Bhaktimarga Swami, HH Niranjana Swami, HH Gunagrahi Swami, Gaura Mani and of course, Madhava Prabhu! What better way to commence festivities than dancing to your heart's content for 12 straight hours?

Since it is a Friday, many will have to take time off from school or work. Don't fret - they have you covered with their unique and creative excuses! Look around the temple for some of these excuses or check their Facebook page here. They want to make sure you are there for what will be a wonderful kirtan experience!

On Tuesday, April 12^th 2011 ISKCON Brampton will mark the Appearance Day of Lord Rama (also known as Rama Navami). Lord Rama is the incarnation of Lord Krishna as the perfect monarch. He enacts His lila, or pastime, of killing the evil king Ravana and establishing virtue, by personal example, throughout His kingdom. The epic story of His transcendental adventures is told in the scripture Ramayana in which one reads of His unfailing devotion to His wife Sita and Their affectionate dealings with Lord Rama's many family members, particularly His devoted Brother, Laksmana.

Please join us in celebrating Rama Navami with a Ramayana Dress up Festival for kids at ISKCON Brampton on Tuesday April 12^th 2011. Starting at 7:00pm, the program includes Guru Aarti, Gaura Aarti, Interactive class, Ramayana Dress up festival and Prasadam.

Starting at 7:00pm the program includes Kirtan, Sharnagati seminar, prasadam and association of devotees. Please bring your family and friends.

Sharanagati is one of Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakura’s popular writings. “Saranagati” means “process of surrender.” The overall mood of the Saranagati is in the mode of humility. Saranagati is primarily in the mode complete surrender. In the first song (intrductory bhajan) of theSaranagati, Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakura explains the main contents of the text. We will be discussing the first Introductory Song on this Friday April 8, 2011. (please print attachment and bring to seminar).The main contents of the text are the six steps in order to have the perfect surrendering to the lotus feet of the Lord. The six steps are Dainya (humility in Section 2), Atma Nivedana (dedication of the self in Section 3),Goptritve Varana (accepting the Lord as one’s only master in Section 4), Avasya Raksibe Krsna Visvasa Palana(faith that Lord Krsna as the sure protector in Section 5), Bhakti Anukula Matra Karyera Svikara (accepting favorable habits and practices towards devotional service in Section 6), and Bhakti Pratikula BhavaVarjanangikara (rejecting unfavorable habits and practices towards devotional service). Bhajans in Sharnagati encompass the essence of many scriptures such as Brahma Samhita, Shrimad Bhagavatam, Bhagvat Gita, Bahkti Rasamrita Sindhu and the teachings of Vaishnava Acharyas in the Gaudiya Vaishnava Sampradaya.

This festival celebrates the appearance anniversary of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. It is observed annually (in late February, early March) by Krishna devotees all over the world—especially in the area of Mayapur, India, the place where He appeared in the year 1486. This year, Gaura Purnima falls on Sunday, February 28th (in the western world).

Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu is Krishna Himself, appearing as His own devotee, to teach us that we can gain full enlightenment simply by chanting the holy names of the Lord:

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

Those who witnessed the Lord's pastimes saw Him dance and chant with ecstatic love for God, the likes of which had never been seen before.

Lord Chaitanya encouraged everyone to follow this same process. He taught that anyone—regardless of background or spiritual qualification—can develop their innate love of God and experience great spiritual pleasure by chanting the Hare Krishna mantra.

The present-day International Society for Krishna Consciousness continues the work begun by Lord Chaitanya, who predicted that the chanting of the holy names of Krishna would spread all over the world.

Gaura Purnima means "golden full moon," signifying that:
1) Lord Chaitanya was “born” during a full moon, and
2) The Lord blesses everyone with the soothing, moonlike rays of His sublime teachings.

His followers generally observe this festival by fasting and chanting the holy names all day. At moonrise, a special multi-course feast is offered to the Lord and then enjoyed by all.

Appearance Day of His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Goswami - February 22, 2011

Tue Feb 22 is the appearance day of His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Goswami.

Celebrations at the temple on Friday Feb 25th at 7pm...please come and enjoy kirtan, discourse on the pastimes of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada and a sumptuous feast.

Born on 6^th Feb 1874, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura is the child that Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura prayed to Lord Jagannatha for, wanting an able assistant to preach Krishna Consciousness. His divinity was evident from birth. When he was born, his umbilical cord was wrapped around his body like a brahmana thread. He was six months old when Lord Jagannatha had His Rathayatra festival in Jagannatha Puri. Lord Jagannatha’s chariot stopped outside of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura’s house for three days and Srimati Bhagavati Devi, Bhaktivinoda Thakura’s wife, took this opportunity to go up onto the chariot and present her new son to Jagannatha Gosvami. Immediately upon placing the child in front of Lord Jagannatha, the child grabbed Lord Jagannatha’s feet and a garland also fell from Lord Jagannatha onto the child. Upon hearing this, Bhaktivinoda Thakura knew this was the child he had prayed for, and so he gave him the name Bimala Prasada, the mercy of Bimala Devi. [In Jagannatha Temple in Puri, Lord Jagannatha’s maha-prasadam is offered first to Bimala Devi and then she gives it for public distribution. In the same way, Bhaktivinoda Thakura considered his son to be her mercy coming originally from Lord Jagannatha.

"Narottama Dasa Thakura was a lifelong brahmacari. He visited all the holy places and the was the best of pure devotees. On the banks of the Padmavati river, in the town of Gopalpura lived King Krsnanda Datta. His older brother was Purusottama Datta. The wealth and fame of these two brothers was beyond compare. King Krsnananda's son was Sri Santosa Datta. In the month of Magha, onthe day of sukla-pancami, Sri Narottama Dasa Thakura took his birth. Seeing many auspicious omens surrounding the birth of his son, Raja Krsnananda was very pleased, and gave lavishly in charity to the brahmanas. Don’t dismiss me, don’t drive me away. Please do what I say. Give all your attention to Gauranga and you will be benefited beyond expectation. This is my request to you.” He would shed tears, roll at their door, and say, “You are reluctant to accept this, but have no doubts. I implore you—take it! His Grace Haridas Prabhu is a disciple of His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

Haridas Prabhu was initiated in 1971 in Los Angeles and he is the first person to get the hard cover big Krsna Book out in 1970 in San Francisco.
Haridas Prabhu was Prabhupada's personal bodyguard in the early 70's in San Francisco, London England and Mayapur. Prabhu took his brahminical initiation from Prabhupada in 1973 in London England.

Haridas Prabhu is visting ISKCON BRAMPTON this Sunday Jan 30th to give us nectar that he received from Srila Prabhupada.

Uttama Sloka Das is coming back to ISKCON Brampton this Sunday

With Gita Jayanti coming up at the end of this month, who better to have return to ISKCON Brampton then Bhagavat Gita course instructor Uttama Sloka Das. He will be visiting Iskcon Brampton this Sunday November 15th in between classes that he's conducting at the ISKCON Toronto temple this weekend. He is a disciple of His Holiness Indradyumna Swami and serves part time as Maharaja's traveling assistant, secretary and translator. He spends his time conducting educational and training courses covering 20 countries on four continents. He is qualified as a Bhakti Sastri teacher, mediator and counsellor. This will be his second visit to Brampton.

Once again at ISKCON Brampton will play host to welcoming a familiar Spiritual Soul on Sunday, November 22nd 2009. Not only will we be able to benefit from the association of His Holiness Bhaktimarga Swami, but also have the fortune of being entertained by one of his famous drama’s. After cancelling this performance from two weeks ago due to an accident with one of the main actors, they have reworked this production and are ready to deliver a star studded performance this Sunday.

The walking monk, as many around the world know him, who has walked across our Nation and others around the earth to engage people of all faiths with his spiritual mission that was originally planted by his spiritual master A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, considers ISKCON Brampton one of his homes in the GTA and is excited to present this latest drama that he is directing.
His Holiness Bhaktimarga Swami has recently formed Swami Productions which consists of gifted actors from around the world who will be debut their first collaborative creation titled “Lonely People”. His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada is an extraordinary soul who dedicated his life to teaching the world about Krishna consciousness, ancient India’s most noble message of spiritual wisdom.
Srila Prabhupada wrote more than forty volumes of translation and commentary on such classics as Srimad-Bhagavatam (Bhagavata Purana), Chaitanya Charitamrita, and the Bhagavad-gita.

He wrote not only as a scholar but as a consummate practitioner. He taught not only through his writings but by the example of his life.

Throughout his works, Srila Prabhupada’s mood was to convey the natural meaning of the scriptures without far-fetched interpretations, giving us an authentic rendition of the Vedic conclusions on such important topics as the purpose of human life, the nature of the soul, consciousness, and God.

In 1965, on behalf of a distinguished line of masters dating back thousands of years, Srila Prabhupada sailed from India to New York at the age of 69 to share Lord Krishna’s message. He brought with him a box of books, $7 in change, and firm faith in the holy name of Krishna. In the years that followed, he traveled and taught throughout the world, opened 108 temples, and formed the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).

Though no longer physically present among us, he lives forever in his books, through his instructions, and in the hearts of those whose lives he touched. This Wednesday, August 5th, ISKCON Brampton will be celebrating the Appearance day of Lord Balarama. (Fasting will be observed till noon that day)

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna, is the fountainhead of allincarnations. Lord Balarama is His second body. They are both one and thesame identity. They differ only in form. Balarama is the first bodilyexpansion of Krishna, and He assists in Lord Krishna's transcendentalpastimes. He is the source of the entire spiritual world and is the adi-guru, the original spiritual master.He assumes five other forms to serve Lord Krishna. He Himself helps in thepastimes of Lord Krishna, and He does the work of creation in four otherforms called the catur-vyuha (four armed) forms known as Vasudeva,Sankarshana, Pradyumna and Anirudha. He executes the orders of Lord Krishnain the work of creation, and in the form of Lord Sesa He serves Sri Krishnain various ways. In all the forms He tastes the transcendental bliss ofserving Krishna. No one can approach Krishna without first getting themercy of Balarama.

H.G Kratu das & Atmarama das at ISKCON Brampton this Sunday!

We hope that you will join us this Sunday at the ISKCON Brampton temple and take advantage of the association of two great vaisnavas.
H.G Kratu Prabhu, a disciple of Srila Prabhupada, will be delivering the discourse this Sunday. H.G Kratu prabhu holds a Masters degree in Engineering from the St. Louis University, Missouri. It was in St. Louis in 1976 where he first met Srila Prabhuapada, who was to become his spiritual master. He took initaition the following year in Toronto, Canada. Prabhuji has done alot of great service, including serving as the temple president in Vancouver and Delhi. This Sundays class promises to be an enlightening one.

Our second guest is H.G Atmarama, who's melodic voice many of us may already be familiar with. Atmarama prabhu lives in Sri Vrindavana Dhama, but his wonderful kirtans and bhajans have taken him around the world, including places like Cuba, Spain and the Bahamas. Join us for his absorbing, spiritually uplifting kirtans this weekend.

In 1972, the devotees of the early Hare Krsna movement spontaneously and unknowingly began the very first Christmas marathon - an enthusiastic and sincere effort to distribute as many of Srila Prabhupadas books as possible. When Srila Prabhupada heard that during three days, December 22 - December 24th, his disciples had distributed five to six thousand books each day, his delighted response was, "By this effort alone, all the book distributors are assured to go back home back to Godhead."

From this statement, and the statement above, we see that sankirtan, and the distribution of books, is not only something that is important to Srila Prabhupada - it is an important ingredient in the success of our spiritual lives.

His Grace Vaisesika prabhu, a disciple of Srila Prabhupada, has been involved in studying and distributing Srila Prabhupada's book, for the past 37 years - successfully!

And so it our great fortune that we have an opportunity to learn from someone who has such great experience in this form of devotional service.

This weekend, the Sankirtan Orientation Session (SOS) will be held at ISKCON Toronto, and includes includes Presentation, Orientation and On-field Training. The seminar begins on the evening of Friday May 29th and continues all day on Saturday May 30th with the on-field training.

Grihastha Vision Team visits ISKCON Brampton on May 24th, 2009

ISKCON Brampton is happy to present the Grihastha Vision team. Partha dasa & Uttama devi dasi are Prabhupad Disciples who have been with ISKCON from close to the beginning of it's inception. They represent a team that is a volunteer group of Krishna devotees who are mostly mental health or educational professionals. Their intention is to provide resources to support married couples and prospective couples primarily in North American ISKCON communities. However, the broader community of Vaishnavas, and anyone who is interested in spiritual married life are welcome to take advantage of the knowledge that is shared. They talk about spiritualizing married life so that it will be an asset for one's Krishna (God) consciousness. Since ISKCON Brampton is primarily made up of Grihasthas, they plan to educate on how the grihastha ashrama is an important and direct service to Srila Prabhupada’s mission. They will also explore how devotees can maintain satisfying and meaningful relationships and the forces that interrupt such relationships. A short interactive workshop will commence at noon this Sunday and they will be around after the program to address any questions that anyone may have. Lord Nrsimhadeva is Lord Krishna’s incarnation as half man, half lion. When the evil king Hiranyakashipu found that his son Prahlad was continuously praying to Krishna and coaxing his schoolmates to become devotees of the Lord, he was furious. He began to terrorize and torture his young son, until finally Krishna, in the form of Nrsimhadeva, burst from a pillar in Hiranyakashipu’s palace and slew the evil king to protect His devotee. Vaisnavas the world over pray to Lord Nrsimhadeva for protection, particularly in dangerous circumstances.

His Grace Brhat Mrdanga Prabhu will be teaching The Nectar of Instruction from May 11-17,2009 at ISKCON Brampton. Please do not miss this opportunity to learn from a master teacher!

The Nectar of Instruction: Go means "the senses," and svāmī
means "the master." Unless one controls his senses and mind, one cannot become a gosvāmī. To achieve the highest success in life by becoming a gosvāmī and then a pure devotee of the Lord, one must follow the instructions known as Upadeśāmṛta, which have been given by Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī.

HG Brhat-Mrdanga Prabhu is a senior devotee in the Krishna Consciousness movement and is well-renowned internationally as an inspirational speaker and teacher. A former school teacher/psychologist, he joined ISKCON 22 years ago, in Durban, South Africa. Under the guidance of HH Giriraja Swami, HG Brhat-Mrdanga Prabhu founded the Bhaktivedanta College of Education and Culture(BCEC) in July 1991 in Durban. BCEC offers various courses that educate spiritual seekers in the Vedic texts of India such as Bhagavad-Gita, Nectar of Devotion, Nectar of Instruction, Sri Isopanisad and many others. Due to his efforts and direction, BCEC has now expanded to Hong Kong, Manila, Cebu, New Delhi, Mayapur, Nairobi, Mauritius, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, Brampton/Mississauga, Toronto, Vancouver, Houston, Trinidad and Guyana, just to name a few places!
